This is your chance to challenge one of the locals to an all-terrain race to the finish line. For those gym junkies, you’ll be pleased to know that the Augusta recreation centre not only houses a gym, but also has a hydro-therapy pool and multi-purpose court. If you’re in Augusta between June and November, you might be lucky enough to spot Migaloo, the extremely rare white whale, which sometimes passes by. If not, you’ll probably spot other humpback whales, which migrate along the coastline around this time of year. No matter what month you arrive in, make sure to visit the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse, which is the most south-western point in Australia.
Augusta is located about 320km from the Perth airport. You can hire a car or catch a coach bus to and from Augusta. Enjoy a bistro meal at Jimmy’s Grill or grab a bite from the Augusta Bakery & Cafe – a very popular choice among locals and tourists. Alternatively, the Margaret River wine region is only half an hour north of Augusta, and offers a wide array of fine dining choices.
